Parliament directs on missing opposition supporters

Parliament has directed the executive to respond to the outcry of the opposition and many families about people who have gone missing since the last elections

The Deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa directed the Prime Minister Robinah Nabanjja and her team to present a statement on the matter on Tuesday next week

This comes after the executive  team led by the Prime Minister Nabanja and a team led by the Leader of opposition Mathias Mpuuga held a meeting chaired by the deputy speaker Tayebwa  focusing on demands by the opposition that government accounts for members of oppositions or supporters missing since 2020

Prime minister was accompanied by minister of security Jim Muweezi and minister of information and national guidance Chris Baryomunsi.

Speaker Tayebwa stressed that the prime minister’s team owe it to the country to explain where the missing Ugandans are and why new cases are emerging even when there has been an outcry.

“What we are handling is not about us but the whole country. Many Ugandans want to know the truth and it has been decided that on Tuesday next week(13.12.2022) the prime minister will required to present a statement on this matter and we settle it once and for all” he asserted

LOP Matthias Mpuuga declined to submit a fresh list of people said to have been abducted and  asked the Prime minister and her team to retrieve a record of parliamentary proceedings for the list submitted earlier.

“The Prime minister and her team insisted that I should present a list of names but I rejected that. I have on several occasions talked about this matter and read out names of those abducted and those missing. I even presented a statement on the floor of the house, they should go and extract the lists from the parliamentary records” he explained
